Hey there, fellow travel enthusiasts! I want to share with you my amazing adventure to Shimla, starting all the way from Guwahati. Buckle up, because this trip was full of exciting moments and breathtaking views!
Our journey kicked off with an Indigo flight from Guwahati Airport to New Delhi. Now, let me tell you, this wasn't just any ordinary flight. We were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of not one, but two of the world's most majestic mountains - Kanchenjunga and Mount Everest!
I couldn't believe my eyes as I pressed my face against the plane window. It was like Mother Nature was giving us a sneak peek of the adventure that lay ahead.
Once we landed in New Delhi, the real fun began. We hopped into a cab from the airport to ISBT Kashmiri Gate. The ride cost us about 490 rupees, which isn't too bad considering the traffic in Delhi.
Speaking of which, if you've never experienced Delhi traffic, let me tell you, it's an adventure in itself! The busy streets, the constant honking, the skilled drivers weaving through impossibly tight spaces - it's all part of the Delhi experience.
At ISBT Kashmiri Gate, we boarded a Himachal State Transport bus to Kalka. Each ticket set us back 330 rupees. The bus left at 11:30 AM, and we settled in for what turned out to be a really scenic journey.
We made a couple of quick stops along the way - a five-minute breather at Ambala Cantt and a slightly longer 10-minute halt at Chandigarh.
I've got to say, the ride through Chandigarh was a highlight. If you've never been there, Chandigarh is this beautifully planned city with wide, tree-lined streets and lots of green spaces.
It was a refreshing change from the usual urban chaos.
We finally reached Kalka at around 5:30 PM. Here's a pro tip for you: if you're planning to take the famous toy train to Shimla (which you absolutely should!), you need to come to Kalka.
The toy train starts its journey from Kalka Railway Station.
Now, about our stay in Kalka. We had booked a hotel through MakeMyTrip, and I've got to say, we lucked out. The hotel was just a five-minute walk from our bus stop, and even better, it was super close to the railway station.
The room was cozy and clean, with two warm blankets tucked away in the wardrobe (trust me, you'll need them in the cool mountain air). The bathroom was spacious and spotless, with all the essentials - shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, and soap.
The next morning, we woke up to perfect weather - crisp, cool, and sunny. At 11:30 AM, we started our short walk to Kalka Railway Station, buzzing with excitement for the next leg of our journey.
Kalka Railway Station is a charming little place. It wasn't crowded at all, and everything was neat and well-maintained.
After a quick security check (nothing to worry about, just standard procedure), we were in!
Standing there on the platform, waiting for our toy train to arrive, I could hardly contain my excitement. The Kalka-Shimla toy train ride is famous for its stunning views and rich history.
I mean, how often do you get to ride a UNESCO World Heritage railway?
But you know what? I think I'll save the details of that incredible train journey for next time. Trust me, it deserves its own story!
So, there you have it - the first part of our adventure from Guwahati to Shimla. From soaring over the Himalayas to navigating Delhi's bustling streets, and finally arriving at the quaint Kalka station, every moment was unforgettable.
Have you ever been on a similar journey? Or are you planning one? I'd love to hear about it! And don't forget to stay tuned for the next part of our adventure - the toy train ride to Shimla. Trust me, you won't want to miss it!
